It has been found that a systolic pressure that is
higher than 160 mmHg increases the risk of development of stroke by four
times. On the other hand, a diastolic pressure greater than 95 mmHg
doubles the risk of developing coronary heart disease.
A high blood pressure, leads to hardening of the arteries and the
build-up of cholesterol-laden plaques on the arterial walls. The fatty
substance and the cholesterol deposits in the arteries, clog the
arteries, thereby restricting the smooth flow of blood.
When this
happens, the heart has to exert an extra force to maintain the smooth
flow of blood. As a result, the heart has to perform greater work, which
is beyond its capacity. This damages the heart. This condition is called
Coronary Heart Disease.
If not controlled in time, this condition can also lead you to other
diseases like angina, heart attack, heart failure and arrhythmias.
The symptoms of coronary heart disease include:
1) Angina Pressure
2) Tightness
3) Constricting pain in the chest
4) Discomfort in the chest
But this disease can be prevented. Just follow the guidelines given
below to protect your heart against the risk of coronary heart disease.
1) Don't let your blood pressure exceed beyond controllable levels
2) Decrease your cholesterol level
3) Lose weight if you are overweight
4) Avoid a sedentary lifestyle
5) Make healthy dietary choices
6) Stop smoking
7) Take alcohol in moderation
If you follow the above mentioned guidelines, chances are very few and
far that you would have to face this disease.
