Hypertension or high blood pressure is a major cause of
kidney disease and kidney failure (end-stage renal disease).
Hypertension can cause damage to the blood vessels and the filters
present in the kidney, making removal of waste from the body, difficult.
The different symptoms of kidney disease include hypertension, decrease
in amount of urine or difficulty in urinating, edema or fluid retention,
especially in the lower legs. You should always try to keep normal blood
pressure. For that, blood pressure measurement is important. Blood
pressure measurements can be done through blood pressure monitor and
digital blood pressure cuffs. Lowering high blood pressure through blood
pressure medication has to be your first priority. For further
information read Types
Of Blood Pressure.
Kidney disease and
hypertension is very difficult to diagnose. Certain laboratory tests can
indicate whether your kidneys are eliminating waste products properly or
not. To prevent hypertension-related kidney damage:
1) You should try to keep your blood pressure below 130/80.
2) Make sure you get your blood pressure checked on a regular basis.
3) Eat a proper diet.
For patients who have hypertension and kidney disease, the most important
treatment is controlling blood pressure. Certain drugs lower blood
pressure and protect the kidneys from further damage.
