The patient may be suffering from low blood pressure, simply because a blood pressure level below normal may not result in typically symptoms of low blood pressure in each individual. There are a number of other factors responsible for low blood pressure conditions to manifest themselves. This is different from high blood pressure which is typically defined as blood pressure above the normal range. The immediately noticeable symptoms of hypotension are dizziness and a feeling of faintness. Low blood pressure may be due to a number of actors such as medicines taken during surgery, anti-depressants, use of medications for coronary heart disease or diuretics. A patient suffering from low blood pressure as a first measure should lie down and rest. This is to prevent any unnecessary movements that may aggravate the individual’s condition. The individual should drink light fluids and plenty of water and should get up very slowly. Some of the other conditions that may result in a sudden onset of low blood pressure are loss of blood, dehydration, diabetic shock or trauma. In such cases it is imperative to seek immediate medical help. If the condition deteriorates, Prolonged and acute low blood pressure is a life threatening condition and no time should be wasted in calling for either paramedical help or transferring the patient to a hospital. |
