High Blood Pressure

Causes Of Hypertension

There are two forms of high blood pressure- primary hypertension and secondary hypertension. Essential or primary hypertension is a far more common condition and accounts for 95 % of hypertension. The causes of high blood pressure (primary) is multi-factorial. There are several factors whose combined effects cause high blood pressure. Secondary hypertension accounts for 5 % of hypertension. Blood pressure monitor is essential in the face of volatile heart rate and blood pressure. For further information on the causes, read What Causes High Blood Pressure?

Causes of hypertension (primary) may be related to genetics, the environment, hormones or how much sodium (salt) you have in your diet. If you have a close family member who has been diagnosed with hypertension there is a greater risk that you will also develop hypertension. Lowering high blood pressure becomes difficult unless you make the changes needed to prevent it.

Causes of hypertension (secondary) is another condition or disease. This could be due to conditions like arteriosclerosis, diabetes or kidney disease, or certain medications. In these cases, keeping these other illnesses/ conditions under control can help to keep your blood pressure under control through blood pressure medicine and blood pressure herbal remedy.

Medication induced hypertension can be caused either by taking medications or by stopping medications too quickly. Prescription medications that can cause hypertension include: corticosteroids, birth control pills and other hormones, migraine medications, and medications used for chronic anemia (erythropoieten). Many prescription blood pressure medication can cause a rebound hypertension if they are not weaned off slowly. Many over-the-counter medications such as cough/ cold medications and medications for asthma can cause hypertension. If the blood pressure levels are high, you should lower your blood pressure immediately.
