Stress can be defined as the mental and physiological reaction  of the body in response to any strain or external stimulus. Stress also alters the normal way of blood clotting raising the chances of a heart attack.

When exposed to stress your body will give you  warning signals to show that something is wrong. Different cognitive, physical and emotional signals of stress warn you that you require slowing down. Otherwise you may suffer from health consequences and it may worsen your other ailments.

Thus, you can observe that stress causes hypertension as it results in increased secretion of hormones which in turn increases the blood pressure. Stress on account of job strain, social environment or emotional upheaval can lead to hypertension.
 
You can handle stress by varieties of non-pharmacologic treatments. These methods are acupressure, meditation, music therapy and biofeedback and have proven benefits for lowering blood pressure. 

Stress management is being increasingly realized as an essential means to combat the rise in hypertensive patients. It is important for us to relax and think positive in case we are to handle and control our stress.
