Medical equipment blood pressure - sphygmomanometer

In earlier times, measuring blood pressure was so difficult that even the best of blood pressure instrument did not provide consistently accurate blood pressure readings. The earliest instrument used for measuring blood pressure is the sphygmomanometer.

With increased technological sophistication, digital blood pressure measuring gadgets were introduced. With these gadgets the accurate measuring of blood pressure has become a cake walk. Even a child can operate such gadgets.

All you have to do is to buy one such sophisticated digital blood pressure instrument to get the readings of your blood pressure. You have to tie the cuff of the machine on your  arm. Just tighten it a little and your exact blood pressure is recorded.

Let us evaluate  how the blood pressure measuring gadget measures blood pressure. To understand this, you have to understand the fundamental biological principle of blood pressure as it functions in our human body.

The blood pressure machines detect both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. When the heart beats, the pressure on the walls of the blood vessel is the maximum and it is called systolic pressure. And when the heart rests between the gaps of heart beat, the pressure on the wall falls down and is called diastolic pressure.

When you attach the cuffs of the digital blood pressure measuring instrument on your arm and switch it on, the sensors of the cuffs records  the systolic and diastolic reading.

In spite of advancement in technology, the sphygmomanometer remains a very dependable device to measure blood pressure. One of the main precautions which need to be taken before using this device is to ensure that the cuff which is used is of the right size. If this precaution is not taken then the chances of an inaccurate reading are increased.
