Low BP
Cause Of Blood Pressure
Sometimes, cause of low blood pressure is
quite unknown or not clear. All the same there are some particular
conditions that let the center stage of low blood pressure to develop.
Malnutrition is supposed to be the most important cause of low blood
pressure. A diet low in calories, proteins, vitamin C, or almost any one
of he B vitamins can cause malnutrition.
In
addition to all these, reduction in the volume of blood and cardiac
output, and certain medications are some of the common causes of low
blood pressure. Let's see how these conditions cause low blood pressure.
Low
blood pressure and heart disease
Weakened heart muscle:
There is a strong relationship between heart and blood pressure. If your
heart is strong, there is almost no problem with your blood pressure.
But if the heart muscle is weak, it will reduce the amount of blood it
pumps. There are so many causes of weak heart muscles. Some of these
include the death of a large portion of the heart’s muscle due to heart
attack, medications that are toxic to the heart, infections of the
muscle of the heart by viruses and the like.
Pericarditis:
It is an inflammation of the pericardium. This is a condition in which,
fluid starts accumulating within the pericardium and around the heart
which finally disable the heart to pump blood and thus results the low
blood pressure.
Pulmonary embolism: In this condition a
blood clot in a vein breaks off in many diminutive parts and goes to the
heart and finally reaches the lung. The small or large part of the blood
clot can obstruct the flow of blood into the left ventricle from the
lungs. It can also restrict the ability of the heart to pump blood
leading to the development of the low blood pressure.
Low blood pressure due to low blood volume
Dehydration:
Moderate to severe dehydration may lead to orthostatic hypotension.
Dehydration is a condition which arises in a patient with diarrhea. In
diarrhea, patient loses large amount of water. It can also occur because
of the prolonged vomiting and nausea. There are also some other cause of
the dehydration which include exercise, sweating, fever, and heat
exhaustion.
Blood bleeding: Blood
bleeding can also cause low blood pressure. Moderate or severe bleeding
can in no time drain an individual’s body of blood, causing low blood
pressure. Trauma, surgical complications, and from gastrointestinal
abnormalities such as ulcers, tumors, are the main points of bleeding.
Medications
and low blood pressure
Frequent medication can also cause low
blood pressure. Medications such as calcium channel blockers, beta
blockers, and digoxin can slow the rate at which the heart contracts and
thus cause low blood pressure. Medications used to treat high blood
pressure and depression can cause low blood pressure as well.
Apart
from all these above mentioned causes of the low blood pressure, here
are some of the other potential causes of low blood pressure found in
many patients.
1) Intake of alcohol and narcotics.
2) Overdosage of drugs taken to control hypertension
3) Side effects of other prescription or over-the-counter medications
4) Pregnancy
5) Heat stroke or heat exhaustion
6) Various types of liver diseases
7) Crash diets
8) Anemia
9) Wide, dilated blood vessels
10) Weakened heart contraction
11) Obstructed blood flow due to defective heart valves or other reasons.
These are some of the basic causes of the low blood pressure. After
identifying the cause of low blood pressure, you should immediately
bring the desired lifestyle change in your living and meet doctor for
further medical guidance.
